Institute of Child Development & Adolescent Well-Being

About AAArohan

Who we are

AAArohan is a multidisciplinary institute for child development and adolescent well-being. Developmental paediatrics, therapy, special education, group programmes, counselling and family support sit together here, under one roof, as one team.

Developmental care is not a journey therapists make alone. It is a partnership between the child, the family and the professionals around them, working towards goals that matter in ordinary life.

We are led by Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Developmental Paediatrician, and Dr Kanchan Gaur, Counsellor.

Why we built this

AAArohan was shaped by two things: professional expertise, and personal experience.

Between us we have spent years inside the system that families navigate, and years alongside families navigating it. We have seen what early identification can change, and what delay costs. We have seen parents handed a diagnosis and very little else. We have seen how much of the real work happens at home, and how rarely anyone equips parents to do it.

This institute was built by mothers, for families walking the same road. That is not a marketing line; it is the reason the Parent Wellness Room exists, the reason parent participation is structural rather than optional, and the reason we care as much about what happens between sessions as during them.

What we have tried to build is a place that is ethical in how it practises, empathetic in how it treats people, rigorous in how it works, and driven by something more than a service model.

What this means in practice

Compassion with clinical rigour.

Care that is empathetic, ethical and evidence-informed, guided by goals that mean something. Not therapy for the sake of therapy. Childhood is short, and every hour a family gives us should be worth it.

Progress that matters in real life.

Communication, self-care, emotional regulation, learning, relationships, participation and independence. Not performance inside a session.

Families as partners.

Parents are part of the team. Our aim is to leave families more capable, not permanently dependent on us.

A journey, not a fixed course of treatment.

As children grow, the focus shifts towards skills that generalise, strategies families lead themselves, less reliance on direct intervention, and planning for what comes next.

Integration and independence.

The long-term goal is not a child who has been made to fit in. It is a child who takes part fully in their family, school and community, as independently as possible, and as themselves.

Trust and dignity before visibility.

Confidentiality, ethical referral practice and the protection of children's dignity come first. We do not publish images of the children we work with. We do not showcase therapy sessions. We take no part in referral commissions of any kind.

Our vision

To become a trusted centre of excellence for developmental care, providing high-quality, ethical, evidence-based and family-centred services that help children reach their fullest potential.

Our mission

To provide structured, individualised and evidence-based developmental services through a collaborative model bringing together assessment, intervention, parent education, counselling and functional skill development.

Growth, for us, is a consequence of doing this well. It is not the objective.

Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Developmental Paediatrician

Dr Gurpreet Kaur

Founder and Clinical Director · Developmental Paediatrician

A gold medalist clinician and academician, Dr Gurpreet Kaur is a developmental paediatrician with over 15 years in paediatric and developmental care. Her approach is grounded in the science of neuroplasticity — the conviction that early, consistent intervention can meaningfully influence a child's developmental trajectory, and that families need continued, holistic support as children grow.

Her key areas of interest include early infant stimulation in high-risk NICU babies, early identification of delays and deviations, and holistic early intervention approaches that integrate therapy, home-based activities and active parental involvement.

Her idea behind AAArohan is rooted in the belief that neurodivergence is a journey parents walk with their children. Her understanding of what children and families go through — the difficulties, the uncertainty, and the weight parents quietly carry every day — together with her published research on parental stress in neurodivergent families, shaped AAArohan's dedicated Parent Wellness Room.

Her vision for AAArohan is simple: from early recognition to holistic intervention and continued support, all under one roof, where every child can progress at their own pace with the right support, and no parent has to walk this journey alone.

Dr Kanchan Gaur, Counsellor

Dr Kanchan Gaur

Founder and Director of Counselling Services · Counsellor

Dr Kanchan Gaur's work at AAArohan centres on counselling and family support. She works with adolescents navigating behavioural and emotional challenges, with parents managing the demands of the developmental journey, and with couples and families adjusting to it together.

Her work is grounded in the belief that effective counselling is not about giving advice. It is about creating a safe, compassionate, non-judgmental space where people feel heard, understood and empowered.

She is a strong advocate for structured support at home, believing that the changes that last are the ones practised consistently in everyday life. She understands the uncertainty and quiet doubts that come with raising a child through developmental and behavioural difficulty, and works with every family patiently.
