Institute of Child Development & Adolescent Well-Being
Understanding every child. Supporting every journey.
Every child has their own way of growing, learning, communicating and connecting with the world.
At AAArohan, we bring developmental understanding, individualised intervention and family partnership together, to support meaningful progress at every stage.
We are not here to change who a child is. We are here to understand how they experience the world, to recognise the potential they already carry, and to help them live more fully, more independently, and more completely as themselves.
Founded by Dr Gurpreet Kaur, Developmental Paediatrician, and Dr Kanchan Gaur, Counsellor.
Everything a family needs, under one roof
- Holistic
- Multidisciplinary
- Ethical
- Empathetic
AAArohan is a multidisciplinary centre. Developmental paediatrics, sensory-motor integration, speech and language therapy, special education, group programmes and counselling all sit here, as one team sharing one plan for your child.
That matters more than it sounds. A child with a developmental difference rarely has a difficulty that belongs to a single discipline, and families should not have to assemble their own team across a city, repeating the same history at every door, carrying information between professionals who never speak to each other.
Our support is holistic by design. We look at how a child communicates, moves, learns, regulates their emotions, relates to other children and manages daily life, and we treat those as one picture rather than separate problems.
Every family arrives with its own questions. We begin by listening.
Starting early changes what is possible
The early years are the brain's most responsive period. Identified early and supported consistently, many developmental concerns follow a very different course.
This matters most for babies who had a difficult start. Infants born preterm, or who spent time in neonatal intensive care, carry a higher risk of developmental difficulty, and they benefit from close, structured follow-up rather than waiting to see what happens.
AAArohan offers developmental surveillance and early intervention for high-risk infants from discharge onwards, led by a developmental paediatrician.
If your baby was in the NICU, you do not need a reason to come in. Follow-up is the reason.
Have you been noticing something?
- Not speaking yet, or speaking less than other children the same age
- Little or no eye contact
- Late to sit, crawl or walk
- Difficulty with buttons, crayons, spoons, handwriting
- Overwhelmed by sound, touch, texture or food, or constantly seeking it
- Cannot sit still, or does not follow instructions
- Repetitive movements, or very narrow interests
- Falling behind at school despite real effort
- Meltdowns, or great difficulty with any change
- Skills that were there before, and are not now
Noticing something does not mean something is wrong. It means it is worth understanding.
You do not need to be certain before you call. Uncertainty is a good enough reason.
What guides our work

Every child can grow.
Every child carries potential that is genuinely their own. Our work is to help them reach as much of it as they can, in their own time, at their own pace.
Every child is unique.
Look closely at the O in our name and you will find a fingerprint. No two children think, learn, communicate or experience the world in the same way. Support should be built around the child in front of us, not around a standard model.
Every journey is a gradual ascent.
Aarohan means a rise. Progress is rarely sudden and rarely straight. It is gradual, and it happens alongside people who are willing to walk at the child's pace rather than their own.
Difference is part of the journey.
The extra A in AAArohan is intentional. It stands for the beauty of being different. Differences are not deficits to be corrected; they are part of who a person is. We work with them, not against them.
Families are partners.
Parents are members of the team, not observers of it. Our aim is to make families more capable and more confident, not permanently dependent on us.
More than a therapy session
Development happens across daily routines, relationships and environments. Not only during scheduled appointments.
We work with families on goals that matter in real life, review them regularly, and support parents to carry strategies into everyday situations so that emerging skills actually get used.
What we are working towards, in the end, is integration and independence. Not a child who has been made to fit in, but a child who takes part fully in their family, their school and their community, as independently as they can, and as themselves.

Questions parents ask us
At what age should I have my child assessed?
There is no age that is too early. Concerns can be meaningfully assessed from a few months of age, and for babies who spent time in a NICU, structured follow-up begins from discharge. If something has been on your mind, that is reason enough.
What if I'm not sure anything is actually wrong?
That is the most common reason parents come to us, and it is a completely reasonable one. A consultation is not a commitment to therapy. Sometimes the outcome is simply reassurance and a review in a few months, and that is a good outcome.
What happens in a developmental consultation?
We take a detailed history from you, observe your child, and use standardised developmental tools appropriate to their age. Depending on what we find, other members of the team may be involved. You will leave with a clear explanation of what we observed and what, if anything, we recommend next.
Do I need a referral from a doctor?
No. Many families come to us directly. We also work closely with referring paediatricians and NICU teams, and are glad to coordinate with your child's existing doctors with your consent.
Will my child be given a diagnosis?
Sometimes, and sometimes not. A diagnosis is a tool, not the purpose of an assessment. What matters more is understanding your child's specific profile of strengths and difficulties clearly enough to support them well.
Does therapy continue indefinitely?
It should not. Our model is deliberately built towards independence. As parents grow more confident and children progress, therapy is stepped down. Continuing therapy beyond what a child needs is not in anyone's interest.
Do you work with my child's school?
Yes, with your consent. School coordination is often an important part of a plan, particularly for children with learning differences or behavioural support needs.
A first step begins with a conversation
You do not need to have the answers before asking for guidance.
If you have questions about your child's development, communication, learning, behaviour or emotional well-being, or you are looking for counselling support for yourself or your family, we would like to hear from you.
Tell us what you have been noticing. We will help you work out the right next step.
Appointments and programme enrolment are subject to consultation, suitability and availability.
